Adjusted Net Income Calculator

Our adjusted net income calculator can be used to calculate your adjusted net income for free childcare, child benefit and personal allowance purposes (and see how contributions change it).

Adjusted net income is the figure that HMRC uses to decide whether you keep your full personal allowance, pay the High Income Child Benefit Charge, and qualify for free childcare hours and Tax-Free Childcare. Enter your income sources and any qualifying deductions, and this calculator shows your adjusted net income, which thresholds you're above or below, and how much extra pension contribution would bring you back under the line. Every step is shown so you can see exactly how the number is built.

Run it on your whole financial picture

Enter your figures once in My Money and every calculator uses them, from income tax to inheritance tax, alongside a year-by-year cashflow plan.

Adjusted net income

Three different income figures decide three different things: your personal allowance, your childcare and child benefit, and whether your pension allowance is tapered. This works out all three and shows which thresholds you are near; we don't give advice.

1. Your income

Salary and bonus, gross, before tax and National Insurance.

Profit after allowable expenses, before tax.

Net rental profit after allowable expenses.

Gross, before any tax.

Pension income in payment, taxable benefits in kind, taxable redundancy pay and anything else taxable.

2. Deductions

Gross: your own contributions including the basic-rate top-up. Not employer contributions.

Including anything given up by salary sacrifice. These do not reduce adjusted net income; they are added back for adjusted income.

Gross: what you gave divided by 0.8.

Allowable deductions that reduce net income.

3. Child benefit

Used only to size the High Income Child Benefit Charge.

An estimate for guidance and education, not regulated financial advice. Open Adjusted Net Income in the app to keep your figures and use them across the other calculators.
